AFFIRM is designed to relate to my life as a queer teenager. There’s an accepting and helpful environment from both the facilitators and participants.
AFFIRM applies cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to specifically queer situations like minority stress. The group let me validate this specific kind of anxiety. Being able to listen to other participants who reflect parts of you, yet show a kind of positive outlook that you don't have (yet). There’s a real potential to make friends with other queer youth and adults who go through similar mental health struggles.
I have benefited immensely from AFFIRM. This program has had a profound impact on the way that I think and has given me hope that I thought I'd never find. It's not perfect, nothing is, but AFFIRM is invaluable.
